Training Update: Summer 2019

I haven’t posted in quite some time as we have been enjoying our summer. We spend some time in Seattle visiting my mom before heading to Alaska to visit the rest of my family and enjoy some adventures up there.

Since we have been back in Idaho we have had visitors and been busy with them. I have been able to start running regularly again and finally starting to feel good! A lot of the running has been up on the trails in the foothills and up at Bogus Basin.

About two weeks ago I jumped in a race, YMCA Boise Front Trail Run 10 miler, up at Bogus Basin last minute. I had taken 8 weeks basically off and had only a few weeks of very minimal running prior to the race. I finished 2nd and had a blast racing on the trails with all the climbing, descending and technical running. That showed me that I had some residual fitness from my Boston training this past winter and spring.

Racing on the trails was so refreshing and fun that I started thinking about finally making the jump to some trail ultras. Well this past weekend I signed up for the Resort to the Rock 50k on August 17th so I guess I will be running my first ultramarathon in a month.

I am planning on updating my blog each week with a recap of the previous weeks training and other thoughts along with pictures from the week of running. I don’t have a goal or objective at this point other than to challenge myself and enjoy being out on the trails. Hopefully some of you will enjoy reading about my journey into the trail world. My first training post will be next Tuesday recapping this week. Hope you enjoy! I’d love to hear any comments or thoughts on what I have to share.
