Resort to Rock // August 17th
7/29-8/4 56.21 miles
This week seems like a blur to me so my recap may be a little shorter. Overall it was a good week or running and was highlighted by my long run on August 2nd. Ever since I signed up for the 50k a month ago I have been telling myself I needed to get in at least one 3 hour run in the hills. I think the time commitment and the idea that I would have to start so early helped me to keep putting it off. I realized I only had two weeks after this until the race so I better do it!
I decided to run the dry creek/shingle creek loop because I really enjoy the dry creek trail and it is a difficult climb the last two miles and I had never been on the shingle creek trail. I also wanted to explore up there before coming down. It ended up being an amazing run for 3:01:57 and got in 20.26 miles. I was super happy with how I felt the entire time. I ended up climbing just under 3000ft. and covered the last two miles of the dry creek trail 3 minutes faster than last time I ran there a month ago. My average pace was 8:59 which would put me right at 4:35 or so for 50k. Depending on the terrain for the race I think I can come close to something around there.
I was pretty tired the whole weekend after the run and only ran 4 miles Saturday and took Sunday off. It is hard to believe only two weeks until the race. I don’t feel like I have trained that hard or been too focused on a specific plan but I have been really enjoying myself and am excited to learn what it is like to race for this long.
Outside of running the week was just a lot of relaxing and playing with the boys. This summer has been a blast getting to spend so much time together. Though I think all of us are ready for school to start! I know Judah is eager to meet his new friends and teacher. Ezekiel keeps asking when he gets to start Kindergarten and is really trying hard to read on his own. Oh and Silas basically stopped using diapers this week so we are close to having him totally potty trained. =)
